It was a pleasure to burn…

In future firemen don’t extinguish flames, but burn…The fireman Guy Montag acts in this way too, burning books – an unnecessary part of this world, bringing only evil and harm. But once he decides to read one of the books…and begins to doubt if the existing order is right…
It’s a very interesting and exciting antiutopian novel. I like to observe man’s psychology and social behavior in new and unexpected circumstances in the book. Also I can to think about the important themes and problems– man’s attitude to literature, question of reading and television. This novel will attract lovers of science fiction very much.

I have read the book "A moveable feast" by Ernest Hemingway .It is a autobiographic novel. It says about Hemingway`s attitude to Paris and Parisian, especially to cuisine and bookshops.
The main characters of this book are Ernest Hemingway and his wife and friends.
There are many bright quotations, which have become my favourite. But there is a special one:"People were always the limiters of hapiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself"
I think it is a wonderful novel. It`s worth reading by everyone.

Erich Segal "Love Story"

"Love means not ever having to say you're sorry."

Erich Wolf Segal (born June 16, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York) attended Harvard College, graduating as both the class poet and Latin salutatorian in 1958, after which he obtained his master's degree (in 1959) and a doctorate (in 1965) in comparative literature from Harvard University. Segal was a professor of Greek and Latin literature at Harvard University, Yale University and Princeton University, and now he is teaching at Wolfson College, Oxford.

Love Story is a 1970 romance novel. It was released on February 14, 1970, Valentine's Day. It is a synthetic romantic story about a Harvard and a Radcliffe student. It shows the reality and difficulties of their life together. At first the book can seem banal, but in the end something unexpected happens to the charecters. I liked this book and I think it’s worth seeing, because it is frank and lifelike. It shows contradictions of the life, behaviour and actions of sweethearts and teachs us to be more loyal and attentive to each other.

"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte

“Women feel just as men feel: they suffer…as men would suffer….” this is probably one of my most favorite quotes from the novel “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte. After I have read this novel I can say that I absolutely agree with Thackeray (a famous English novelist) that “Jane Eyre” is “the masterwork of a great genius”. Charlotte who managed to become a woman writer in the 19th century, a thing almost impossible at that time, and who hadn’t seen much of the world except her own family, created an amazing novel where she showed so brilliantly Victorian morality of that century. In this novel Charlotte reveals the importance of inner beauty, and tells that it is what is inside a person that counts. Jane a main character of the novel assaults Victorian morality and proves that a plain and poor woman is not “a blot on face creation”, that “women feel just as men feel”, and that “marriage without love is sacrilege”.
The novel is written from the first person, which makes it so close to a reader. The main character a young and “plain” Jane but very strong and independent tells a reader about her difficult childhood with her aunt (“I am glad you are no relation of mine. I will never call you aunt as long as I live”) her later experiences and love (“I had not intended to love him, the reader knows I had wrought hard to extirpate from my soul the germs of love there detected; and now at the first renewed view of him, they spontaneously revived, great and strong! He made me love him without even looking at me.”), drama and grieves (“Gentle reader, may you never feel what I then felt. May your eyes never shed such stormy, scalding, heart-wrung tears as poured from mine…”) and shares with the reader her every thought and feeling. Jane Eyre by doing the next small right thing by believing in herself, even though she posses none of the qualities that the powers of the world values, this plain Jane becomes a real role model. You like Jane, like what she says, and want to see what she will say next. That’s why once you have started to read this novel you can’t stop yourself. In conclusion I want to say that I liked and was impressed by this novel. It reminded me about the fairy tale Cinderella though this novel is more natural and more of a true story than a fairy tale. Anyway if you haven’t read this novel, I will recommend you to read it one day, I am sure you will like this novel and will have a good time while reading it)

"Song of Saya", by Gen Urobuchi

Sakisaka Fuminori has a simple and happy life of a medical college student - until he gets involved in a car accident. His parents die in it, but Fuminori survives thanks to the miracles of modern brain surgery. The surgery has its side effects, however, and now his five senses are twisted and mutilated. He sees normal people as lumps of flesh who spout bubbling noises instead of human speech, normal food tastes disgusting, and so on. Unable to live in this mad world, Fuminori contemplates suicide in hospital, but is suddenly visited by a young girl who appears absolutely normal to him. Fuminori gets closer to "Saya" and treats her as the last haven of sanity without realising the reason of her unique looks... well, at first. This is probably the most weird and solid novel I've read this year, and not without a reason. The author, Urobuchi Gen, is well-known as the man who has written scripts for many action-based games released in Japan, and this is his first try at writing something different. The influence of H. P. Lovecraft's works is obvious (it even has "Truth makes you go insane" motives, among other similarities), but the trait that really makes "Song of Saya" shine is its unique take on the genre of romance novel. If you've read this novel and still don't believe that love can make you strong enough to do the impossible, you should read it again. Another important thing to remember is characters' shifting allegiances - and not in a classical "a hero becomes a villain" way. Just don't forget to look at some actions and events at different angles while reading and you will have one of the most rewarding experiences in your life.

"You know the dandelion flower? The one that scatters its seeds on the wind? The wind carries those fluffy seeds far, far from where they were born. What if one of them ends up in a desert where not even a single blade of grass is growing? If you can imagine how that lone seed will feel... then you might be able to understand me."The seed is a baby plant, after all. If it does its best, it can turn even a desert into a garden. Maybe that little seed will decide to try its hardest. Maybe it will decide to grow and multiply, so that it can turn the whole desert into a field of dandelions. What do you think can give that dandelion seed the strength to do so?"All it needs - is to be loved by just one person in the whole desert."

"Love means not ever having to say you're sorry"

The novel tells of Oliver Barrett IV, who comes from a family of wealthy and well-respected Harvard University graduates. Partly to break the traditional Ivy League mold, the Harvard student meets and falls in love with Jennifer Cavelleri, a working-class, quick-witted Radcliffe College student. Upon graduation from college, the two decide to marry against the wishes of Oliver's father, who thereupon severs ties with his son.

Without his father's financial support, the couple struggles to pay Oliver's way through Harvard Law School with Jenny working as a private school teacher. Graduating third in his class, Oliver takes a position at a respectable New York law firm.

With Oliver's new income, the pair of 24-year-olds decide to have a child. After failing, they consult a medical specialist…

Robert Louis Stevenson
‘Treasure Island’

Robert Louis Stevenson was born in 1850 in Edinburgh and studied in Edinburgh University for the bar, but became a great writer. ‘Treasure Island’ wasn’t his first work, but it was the most popular one and it had brought him fame.
‘Treasure Island’ is a classical adventure story about pirates, a map, treasure, a mutiny and a one-legged sea-cook. The main theme is the theme of evil and good and how good conquers any evil…
One day young Jim Hawkins finds in the chest of Billy Bones, an old buccaneer, a map where draws where treasure is buried. Jim with his friends goes to look for the treasure. They choose a crew, but they don’t know that some of the crew members were buccaneers, who wanted to own the treasure…
I liked this book very much, because it is interesting and exciting. If you like adventure stories, you should read ‘Treasure Island’, you’ll get a great pleasure, I’m sure.

"P.S. I love you"by Cecelia Ahern

The book is certainly one of the greatest inventions of a man.
I prefer different kinds of books (it depends on friends' advices). Last book, that I read, was P.S.I love you. It is a novel. Acctually I don' t like novels. I think, people read them just if they want to kill some time. But i can say that «P.S.I love you» is an exception. It is about unearthly love. Holly and Gerry are a perfectly happy married couple that others envy. At the age of thirty Gerry is diagnosed with a terrible illness. Month after Gerry's death Holly receives an envelope with letters, that he has left for her. With the help of the letters Holly begins her new life.
This book is like a teacher. It helped me to understand that people should spend more time with their families and whenever they have a chance to say «I love you» to them, because life is too short.

The Satanic Verses
by Salman Rushdie

Just before dawn one winter's morning, a hijacked jetliner explodes above the English Channel. Through the falling debris, two figures, Gibreel Farishta, the biggest star in India, and Saladin Chamcha, an expatriate returning from his first visit to Bombay in fifteen years, plummet from the sky, washing up on the snow-covered sands of an English beach, and proceed through a series of metamorphoses, dreams and revelations.

The Satanic Verses is a wonderfully erudite study of the evil and good entwined within the hearts of women and men, an epic journey of tears and laughter, served up by a writer at the height of his powers.

What is this book really about? It's not just about Islam, but faith and doubt in any religion... Moreover, it is not that simple; there is no single continuous theme. It is as multi-thematic as it is ambiguous and borderless. Metamorphoses and grotesque transformations, the confusion of good and evil, religious fanaticism, multiculturalism, migration and displacement... all these ideas appear in the book in some form or other while the reader follows the adventures of Gibreel Farishta (the angel, but not) and Saladin Chamcha (the devil, but not) from their descent from an exploded plane to London, through their absurd, mythic misadventures, to their final reunion.

And my favouirite quotation from this book: "A man who invents himself needs someone to believe in him, to prove he's managed it. Playing God again, you could say. Or you could come down a few notches, and think of Tinkerbell; fairies don't exist if children don't clap their hands. Or you might simply say: it's just like being a man."

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was imposible to say which was which.

George Orwell 'ANIMAL FARM'

It began with a speech of Old Majors...This speech should give them a reality check. He tries to persuade them to start a rebellion. You can see that Old Major represents the communism because he calls them as "Comrades". He points all the negative aspects out like Man is the only creature who does not produce something he only consumes. Some day later he dies. Snowball, Napoleon and Squealer are now pushing the movement on. By and by Napoleon gets rid of Snowball and becomes the Leader of Animal Farm. A general question. It is said that Animal Farm is a comparison between different systems. The first system was a dictatorship because Jones was the only one who gave orders. The second one is a democracy. All animal are equal, at least for a short period. The third is a republic. The power was transfered to the representatives of the farm, the pigs. An the last one is again a dictatorship through the pigs.
When the animals take over the farm, they think it is the start of a better life. Their dreams is of a world where all animals are equal and all property is shared. But soon the pigs take control and one of them, Napoleon, becomes the leader of all the animals. One by one the principles of the revolution are abandoned, until the animals have even less freedom than before. All the commandments are gone, and all that is written there now is “All animals are equal, But some animals are more equal than others.”

Animal Farm is a classic work by George Orwell and a noted piece of literature, which, of course, may help the reader to catapult the imagination beyond the horizons of dogmatic adherence to idealistic or Utopian thoughts. It however, represents human characteristics in an analogy of animal instincts, but it really gives insight into the Russian Revolution of 1917. It also mimics the doomsday of a precipitated change, brought by a modicum of bureaucratic class called as Bolsheviks.

"This side of Paradise". Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald.

He to be in the joyful and red battle
Amongst the chieftains and they doing great deeds of valor
His life to go from him
It is the chords of my own soul would be loosed.

Recently I have read S.Fitzgerald's book "This side of Paradise". Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (September 24, 1896 – December 21, 1940) was an American writer of novels and short stories, whose works are evocative of the Jazz Age, a term he coined himself. He is widely regarded as one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. Fitzgerald is considered a member of the "Lost Generatoin” of the Twenties. He finished four novels, including The Great Gatsby, with another published posthumously, and wrote dozens of short stories that treat themes of youth and promise along with despair and age. This Side of Paradise is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, and taking its title from a line of the Rupert Brooke poem Tiare Tahiti, the book examines the lives and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is an attractive Princeton University student who dabbles in literature and has the book's theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking.The main feature of this book is that most of the characters are drawn directly from Fitzgerald's own life. For example Amory Blaine—the protagonist of the book, is clearly Fitzgerald. Both are from the Midwest, attended Princeton, had a failed romance with a debutante, served in the army, then had a failed romance with a second debutante. This Side of Paradise blends different styles of writing: at times a fictional narrative, at times free verse, sometimes narrative drama, interspersed with letters and poems from Amory. In fact the novel's odd blend of styles was the result of Fitzgerald cobbling his earlier attempt at a novel The Romantic Egotist together with assorted short stories and poems that he had written, but never published. So, in my opinion, this book is really interesting and I recomend you to read it. This book is for peole, who are really into reading.

"Before Adam" by Jack London

Do you know that Jack London author of more than fifty books.
His adventure stories continue to facinate new generations of readers.
American novelist is best remembered for "The call of the wild" and his
numerous tales of travel and adventure. "Before Adam" is the little known
story of a boy who dreams he lived the life of an early hominid
Australopithecine.
The story is unique in that it offers an early, entertaining view of human
evolution. The majority of the story is told through the eyes of the boys
hominid, one of the Cave people. In addition to the Cave people, there are
more advanced Fire people, and the more animal-like Tree people.
London created a new world, as a place of dark conflict, where only the best
people will survive.
"Before adam" is a remarkable and provocative tale. The brilliance of the book
lies not only in its telling but also in its imaginative picture of a early
humans, how ancestors thought about themselves and their world.

"These are our ancestors, and their history is our history. Remember that".

"Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte

The book is about uneasy destiny of the orphan with strong, independent character, about its childhood, searches of the way and overcoming of obstacles, in this way rising.

Jane involuntarily learns the terrible truth which can destroy for ever dreams enamored and completely to change their lives... You learn about Jane Eyre's life, having read through this book.

I have read this book over and over! It is a wonderful novel on the human condition. It gives hope to any who desires to rise above their station in life. Bronte does a wonderful job depicting each and every one of her characters. The happy ending though somewhat unrealistic is very heart felt. It makes me want to be a better, smarter, more pure person each time I read it. I strongly recommend this to everyone. It keeps your attention and is always an inspiration.

Book review

I've read a book "The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" written by famous Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who is especially known for his novels of adventure.

"The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" is his most famous study of the abysmal depth of personality. The book was written in 1886 and it deals with the problems of Henry Jekyll who was a respectable man in society but was suffering from duality of personality. He invented a drug to separate the two men living in his soul, one of whom was Dr.Jekyll, an honorable man, and the other- a miserable, cruel, and detestable Edward Hyde.

Since the death of Stevenson in 1894 this book has inspired several sequels by other hands, including "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Holmes" by Loren D. Estelman (1979) and "Jekyll, Alias Hyde: A Variation by Donald Thomas (1988). Also it has been an influence for "The Hulk", "Two Face" and the general superhero genre for the story's ties to a double life.

I consider "The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" a very interesting book and I'd recommended it to everyone who is keen on fantastic and psychological novels.

"The Heart Of A Dog"

A rich, successful Moscow professor befriends a stray dog and attempts a scientific first by transplanting into it the testicles and pituitary gland of a recently deceased man. A distinctly worryingly human animal is now on the loose, and the professor's hitherto respectable life becomes a nightmare beyond endurance. An absurd and superbly comic story, this classic novel can also be read as a fierce parable of the Russian Revolution.

"One can find time for everything if one is never in a hurry. Of course if I started going to meetings and carolling like a nightingale all day long, I'd never find time to go anywhere."

"New Moon" by Stephenie Meyer

I have read the second book of the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer “New moon”. The main theme of this novel is the theme of unbounded and true love. She is an ordinary awkward and clumsy girl, with a lot of hang-ups, who is always involved in idiotic situations and attracts problems. He is a vampire, dangerous but awfully charm. She loved him more than her life. He was ready to do everything to make her happy. Therefore he left her. The darkest time of her life came, that is expressed in the title of the book, as the new moon is the darkest phase of the lunar cycle. What did she do? She got involved with werewolves! “Anyone else would be better off when the vampires left town. But you have to start hanging out with the first monsters you can find” – this is one of my favorite quotations of this books. Such fantastic world in the XXI century seems strange, bizarre; just because the book bewitches us. On the background of this fantastic story are common human relations. I like this novel for its common language and detailed lively characters. Much attention is given to description of feelings, and it was also pleased me. It’s nice, positive novel about love for which we can give up not only our life but also our soul. I have read it without a pause.

I have read the Under the Net by Iris Murdoch and I’m ready to share my opinion. It was the first novel by Iris Murdoch I happened to read. My impression is somehow mixed, I rather haven’t enjoyed the whole plot. The main hero, Jake Donaghue, is a clever, but lazy young man, who makes a poor living out of translation work. Jake is captivated by a majestic philosopher of Hugo Belfounder. Jake turns their conversations into a fictional dialogue, which he publishes under the title “The Silencer”, trying to earn some money. The book was published, but it wasn’t success. At the same time he is getting involved in a number of misadventures, including love affair. Meeting with Anna, his former lover, leads Jake into a series of fantastic adventures. But it isn’t a book about happy relationship.
The main point of the book is somehow obscure. I did enjoyed some of the scenes, but not the characters. For example, Jake is a bit too unsettled, his life a bit too complicated. I liked the language of communication between the heroes, though.

"The dead zone" by Stephen King

The Dead Zone is a novel by Stephen King published in 1979. It is about Johnny Smith, who is injured in an accident and enters a coma for nearly five years. When he emerges, he can see horrifying secrets, but he cannot identify all the details of his "dead zone", an area of his brain that suffered permanent damage as the result of his accident.
There are two main themes in this book. The first is the problem of the man in the society, and the second is the theme of love. The plots always change each other. It makes the novel rich.
The global problem for the country is shown here. The President’s election. Johnny with his abilities to see the ruture had saved his country from the awful person.
When you read this book you get nervous together with the character. You are sorry for him. While he was in a coma his girlfriend got married, and he couldn’t believe that, but she loved him too. He died, but people loved and thanked him for his help.
It’s a good and an exciting book written by the talented person. This book makes us think about our life.

"Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer

I would like to tell you about a book which I have read. This book is called "Twilight" and it is written by Stephenie Meyer.
It is a story about ordinary American girl Bella, who came from sunny Florida to Forks. This is a boring rainy and gloomy town in the North of the USA. Everything is ordinary in Forks, everything is simple. But Bella met Edward and her life changed! He is a handsome and very enigmatic. His life and he himself is full of mystery. He is a vampire, dangerous but terribly beautiful. They felt in love. A defenseless sheep became closer to an awful wolf. She was the first person to whom he could unbosom. He became the first man she loved.
“About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him-and I didn't know how dominant that part might be-that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him” – that is my favorite quotation from this book. Their relations are very nice, tender, and gentle. She wanted to become a vampire like he to be with him forever. But he didn’t want to bite her. He didn’t want to hurt Bella. He couldn’t do it!
The main theme of the “Twilight” is the theme of love, but it is also a fantastic book. It’s a story about love which overcomes all obstacles and it’s a good novel about vampires, perhaps the best vampire saga I have ever heard of.
I like this book very much. I have read it without a pause. And I bet you will also do the same.

"The painted veil" by Somerset Maugham

The book is called "The painted veil". It's written by Somerset Maugham. He was an English playwright, novelist and short writer, one of the most popular authors of his era.
In the centre of subject are mutual relations of the married couple. This relations are the main theme of this book. The young girl Kitty married Walter Fane, a bacteriologist. Then he found out about infidelity and made decision to go with his wife to a district of cholera epidemic. This is the point where the examination of relation begins. Only when conjoints found themselves in the world's end, they began to speak to each other.
